Fall Trend: Shirt or Jacket? It’s a Shacket!

3 Ways to Style a Shacket

Ok let’s talk trends! Unless you’ve been under a rock this year ,which you may have been, and if so no judgment here, then you’ve heard of or seen the shacket trend just about everywhere. Just by the name of it most of us can determine exactly what it is, but for those of us who are still not 100% sure I’ll break it down for you.

A shacket is a cross between a shirt and a jacket, hence the name Shacket! They made this one easy for us by just putting the two words together SH(irt)-(j)ACKET. The silhouette is usually cut like a button down shirt and generally has a medium weight. Not too light to resemble a regular shirt but also not too heavy, even though most shackets are heavy enough that it could replace a coat in most situations. If you’re looking to wear it in place of a coat make sure to find fleece lined options which will allow you to do just that!

The shacket has become more and more popular and one of the industries most popular hybrid pieces. It’s the perfect layering piece when you’re looking to add a little edge to your style. They are definitely taking over as the new jacket on the block. The great thing about them is they are flattering on all body shapes and sizes and the styling possibilities are endless.

If I had to give them a name I would call them chic-casual. They are chic enough to dress up for a date night but casual enough to throw on over your favorite t-shirt and jeans. They also come in many patterns but the most popular is definitely plaid and then solid comes in at a strong second. Varying lengths also set them apart with them ranging from hip length to longline.

So now that you have the history behind them let’s jump into how to style them! I’ll start by showing you 3 easy ways to style this trend to help those of you who are still on the fence about it, then I’ll end by  linking some of my favorite styles from this trend.

All of the looks I style with in this post will be using this Red Plaid Poly/Wool Blend Shacket from Zara. I have linked it below, just click the pictures of the items.

1. With a white button down and jeans.

Nothing is easier to style than the classic white shirt and jeans. Layering it with a shacket will just take this look to the next level. It’s simple enough to not cause much of a fuss and stylish enough to give you that instant cool factor.

2. With a Jumpsuit.

I’m always looking for a way to recreate a look. I own tons of jumpsuits and layering them with a shacket gives me another reason to wear them in yet another season. As I stated earlier the shacket is the perfect layering piece to give you that edgy cool factor and it did just that over a jumpsuit.

3. With a gray hoodie and gray sweats.

Let’s face it, during this Pandemic we all racked up on the sweats so why not find different ways to elevate them. Adding a shacket gives you yet another way to turn your sweats into a LOOK. It leans in on that chic-casual vibe making you look like you actually got dressed and didn’t just roll out of bed. Lol Wearing sweats the wrong way can definitely give the latter type of vibe.

This is definitely one of those fun trends that I feel like will be around for a while so why not try it!? I hope these different style tips help in your journey to test drive this cool trend! I’ve linked a few different variations of this trend below along with some of the other items I used to style these 3 looks. Hopefully something catches your eye and you try this trend out!
