3 Tips to Find the Perfect Hat

3 Must Have Tips when Selecting the Perfect Hat

If I had to name the perfect accessory, like if I had to choose just one it would most definitely be a hat. Outside of the fact that they have health benefits by shielding and protecting us from the sun, their fashion potential is endless. And even though they go in and out of style people will continue to wear them regardless of what any fashion expert says.

If you’re anything like me, once you find the perfect hat for you there’s no stopping you from wearing it. Finding the perfect hat is definitely a science but there are a few major tips to keep at the forefront of your mind to make the selection effortless.

Below I’ll be reviewing the Top 3 Tips to Consider When Seleting the Perfect Hat.

1. The Size of Your Head

  • I know this seems simple enough but hear me out because this tip has two points. The first should be pretty obvious. If you don’t know your head size then you can’t purchase a hat that fits. Nothing is worse than someone wearing a hat that is too small for their head and it keeps falling off. The size of the hat matters. There is nothing fashionable about wearing a too small hat just like there is nothing fashionable about wearing too small clothes. Measure your head before purchasing any hat and made sure you look at the measurement chart before purchasing.

  • The second point to this tip points to the actual size of the hat in comparison to the size of your head. Just like patterns in clothing, the size of your hat should match in comparison to your head size. If you have a small head, a smaller hat would look more proportional opposed to a larger hat. A large hat would over power a small head and not look flattering at all. The same with a larger head, a small hat would look unproportional. A larger head needs a larger hat and a smaller head needs a smaller hat, easy enough right?

2. Your Hairstyle

  • I have different hats for different hairstyles. I have a pretty small head but when I’m wearing  braids I realized that none of my hats fit. As I mentioned in the first tip they weren’t  flattering at all because they would continue to fall off of my head so I had to buy hats specifically for when I was wearing braids. Outside of that, I always have a specific vibe I’m going for and usually my hairstyle and hat attribute to that vibe. Now this is personal preference but some hats look better with longer hair, some with shorter hair, some with braids and so on. All of this should be considered when looking for the perfect hat.

3. The Shape of Your Face and Features

  • Let’s face the facts, certain hats look better on certain people and the shape of their face and features have a lot to do with that. When deciding on the perfect hat look at the width of the brim, the height of the hat, the details on the hat, and make sure all of these factors compliment the shape of your face. Rounder and heart shaped faces should lean towards shorter brims, leaner faces should lean towards hats with shorter heights, oval faces look great with hats with broader brims like Fedoras for example. There’s a hat for every face shape, it just take a little trial and error.

Finding the perfect hat should be a fun experience. I hope you can take these tips along with tons of trial and error and find the perfect hat for you or if you’re like me, the perfect hats.
